Play out your imagination at art show

★ Highlight: Art that offers a chance to play different roles

Live some of your dreams at an innovative installation art exhibition at the D Mall Shopping Center, running until December 2.

With a series of installations, this exhibition aims to create several imaginative scenarios that patrons can join.

Being a super star at an awards ceremony at a film festival or a king or queen at an imperial palace are among the various scenarios.

People can act different roles through different scenes in this creative exhibition, and experience various lives that once existed only in their imagination. Don’t miss it!

Unique photographic perspectives on social issues

★ Highlight: A joint show of two leading documentary artists

A joint exhibition of two leading documentary photographers in the UK, Anna Fox and Karen Knorr, runs at the Shanghai Center of Photography through November 18.

Nearly 100 representative works of Fox and Knorr are on show, with a focus on social stratification, work environments and self-awareness. It includes two of Fox’s series, “Work Stations” and “Basingstoke” and Knorr’s “Belgravia.”

Unique perspectives and distinct formats in a humorous way, their works encourage viewers to think deeply about society.

A look at 80 years of US history through art

★ Highlight: An exhibition featuring 80 years of American art history

The Art institute of Chicago and the Terra Foundation for American Art have joined together for an exhibition featuring 80 years of American art history (1865-1945) at Shanghai Museum.

This exhibition is divided into three parts. One covers the American Civil War and the World Wars, introducing a group of artists and their representative works during that period, such as Frederic Church and Marsden Hartley.

The next two parts were about American pioneer artists and their bold innovations in the early 20th century, including James Whistler, Mary Cassatt and John Sargent.

It takes visitors to the old days of America, experiencing the changes in American art between 1865 and 1945.

Simply music to see out summer

★ Highlight: An amusing music party with multiple events

Simple life Music Festival will return to Shanghai at the West Bund with seven days of events next month, aiming to build a fantastic music party with new concept — “Simple Dreams and Days.”

A group of excellent Chinese music singers and bands will join this year’s festival, including Sammi Cheng, Zhao Lei, Escape Plan, Omnipotent Youth Society and 20 other groups of independent musicians from October 1 to 7.

A series of events will also be held, such as creative markets, food bazaars and exhibitions. Go and catch the tail of summer!

Have fun with a famous family quartet

★ Highlight: A brilliant concert by the Hagen Quartet

Renowned ensemble the Hagen Quartet will present local music lovers a concert at the Shanghai oriental Art Center on October 11.

Founded by three Austrian musicians of the Hagen family and a German in 1981, the quartet has performed in New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, Salzburg and Vienna.

Over recent years, the Hagen Quartet has worked with well-known conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Clarinetist Sabine Meyer and pianist Mitsuko Uchida.

Russian violinist Mullova in solo recital

★ Highlight: Renowned Russian violinist entertains

Russian violinist Viktoria Mullova will present a recital without accompaniment at the Shanghai Concert Hall on October 13.

Born in Moscow, Mullova is one of the most outstanding violinists on the international scene. Influenced by German composer Johann Sebastian Bach, she has completed a huge number of performances of Bach’s works, receiving a high praise from music fans and critics.

With her excellent talent, she has collaborated with a host of well-known groups such as orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Il Giardino Armonico and Venice Baroque.

A Stomping good time making unusual percussion

★ Highlight: An amazing percussion music show created by “Stomp”

British percussion group “Stomp” will give an amazing performance at ET space, bringing laughter for local fans this autumn.

Using ordinary items from daily life, such as besom brooms, matchboxes and Zippo lighters, Stomp is a unique band which can create innovative and imaginative performances by using these small items.

Founded by Luke Cresswell and Steve Mcnicholas in 1991 in England, Stomp has made several international tours and won numerous prizes worldwide.

A family treat for mom, dad and the kids

★ Highlight: A lovely musical for kids and parents

As one of the most popular picture book musicals in London, “The Tiger Who Came to Tea” will be staged at Shanghai Children’s Art Theater from October 4 to 7.

Adapted from an English picture book of the same name, the musical tells the story of a cute tiger and his amazing adventure with a nice family: Sophie and her parents.

Kids will have the chance to learn English words and songs in a relaxed way.
