American singer and songwriter Jason Mraz will sing to audiences in Shanghai this May.

Born in June 1977, Mraz is famous for his well-known songs “I’m Yours,” “Try Try Try,” “Love Someone” and “Lucky.”

After high school, Mraz attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, a private and not-for-profit college conservatory for the performing arts in New York City for about a year and a half, originally to work in musical theater.

During his time in New York, Mraz was given a guitar by his friend and began to write songs.

After becoming a roadie for the band Elgin Park in San Diego in 1999, Mraz met future band member Toca Rivera, a percussionist.

Two years later, he released the live acoustic album “Live at Java Joe’s,” performing with Rivera and bassist Ian Sheridan.

Mraz first came to prominence in the San Diego coffee shop scene in 2000. In 2002, he released his debut album “Waiting for My Rocket to Come,” containing his hit single “The Remedy (I Won’t Worry).”

In 2005, Mraz’s second album “Mr. A-Z” achieved major commercial success, peaking at number five on the “Billboard 200” and selling over 100,000 copies in the US alone.

One of his most famous and welcomed songs, “I’m Yours,” is the lead single released from his third album “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things,” which also became his first Top 10 hit on the “Billboard Hot 100.”

Mraz made his Broadway debut in the musical “Waitress,” taking on the role of Dr Pomatter in November 2017 for a 10-week run. Last August, Mraz released his sixth album “Know.”

He was awarded the Hal David Starlight Award from the “Songwriters Hall of Fame” in 2009.

In 2010, Mraz won his first two Grammy Awards, for “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” (“Make It Mine”) and “Best Pop Collaboration” (“Lucky” with Colbie Cailat).
