Shanghai police shoot hostage-taker dead

A man being held hostage at knife point was saved when police shot his captor dead Thursday night.

A man being held hostage at knife point was saved when a Shanghai police SWAT team shot his captor dead in a supermarket Thursday night, police announced Friday.

The incident occurred around 8:15pm when a man entered a supermarket on Jilong Road in Pudong and took a person hostage with a knife. The man held the victim at knife point during negotiations with the police SWAT team who, fearing the hostage was in immediate danger, shot the suspect. He later died later after being sent to hospital. 

The case is still being investigated.
