A section of Minsheng Road, between Qishan Road and Changyi Road in downtown Pudong, will be closed to motor vehicles from Friday — and will remain so until 2020.

Police said on Thursday that drivers won’t be able to use this part of the street until the end of February 2020 when construction of the overlapping parts of the Jiangpu Road Tunnel and the Changyi Road Station on Metro Line 18 is scheduled to be finished.

The Minsheng Road campus of Shanghai Maritime University and several schools and residential complexes are directly affected.

Motorists are advised to take the extended Rushan Road at Minsheng Road and then the newly opened Xinxing Road to reach Pudong Avenue. They can also use Taolin and Miaopu roads.

A two-way bike lane can still be used by both pedestrians and bike riders on the west side of the Minsheng Road section.

A north-to-south lane for motor vehicles between Changyi Road and Pudong Avenue will be kept open for employees from companies and people from residential complexes along the affected section, police said.

The path to the Minsheng Road ferry terminal near Binjiang Avenue will remain open for pedestrians and bike riders.

The nearest Metro station to the closed section is Minsheng Road Station on Line 6.

Meanwhile, bus lines No. 774, 794 and 983 will be rerouted to Taolin and Miaopu roads.
