A total of 140 students and researchers from universities across China received prestigious scholarships to honor their achievements in Shanghai over the weekend.

The group was made up of 128 medical students from 18 universities, and 12 researchers from eight universities.

The Roche Diagnostics China Medical and Life Science Education and Research Fund is the first education fund established by China's diagnostic industry and was set up in 2003.

So far, 1,024 medical students and 76 researchers have received support from the fund, which was set up to encourage and honor young students and talents in the major of diagnostics and life sciences, and to support the development of diagnostics in China, officials from Roche Diagnostics (Shanghai) Limited said.

In addition to offering scholarships, the company started a new program providing internships for medical students, who can choose from half or full-year internships to help learn from real working environments and better prepare for their careers.
