A fun exhibition featuring art works made of fruits, vegetables and flowers kicked off at the Shanghai Binjiang Forest Park in Pudong New Area over the weekend and will run through December 17.

Fruits and vegetables are often used in flower arrangement works because they have a brilliant color and reflect the change of seasons, the park operator said.

The history of making flower arrangement works with fruits and vegetables dated back to the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) and it gained popularity in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The 20-some pieces of works on display used a variety of vegetables and fruits like mushroom, watermelon, cherry tomato, chilli, lemon, banana and celery, and they were arranged into different shapes to create the scene of autumn harvest and butterflies in flowers.

A flower arrangement class will be organized on December 9 in the park
