United Nations embrace 'New Shanghai' culture
Chinese Language Day 2018 kicked off on Monday at the United Nations in Vienna to mark the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, and to celebrate Shanghai culture.
This year's event, with the theme of “New Era, New Shanghai,” will last till May 10 and showcase Shanghai culture, film and TV at the UN.
The language day was established to boost the equal exercise of the six official languages of the UN.
The cultural event will feature activities for almost 5,000 diplomats from over a hundred countries.
Included is an “Amazing Shanghai” photography exhibition, an art exhibition on Chinese genesis mythology, a screening of 3D Peking opera films, virtual reality shorts, a qipao show, and a concert.
The 3D Atmos Peking Opera films “Farewell My Concubine” and “In Pursuit of the General,” jointly produced by SMG, Shanghai Film Group, Shanghai Peking Opera Theater and Movie Channel, premiered in Vienna on May 6 and will be screened for four consecutive days.
The event will include 12 hours of screenings daily, depicting “One Belt and Road” construction, traditional Chinese medicine, martial arts and the China International Import Expo to be held in Shanghai this November.
