Didi driver jailed for molesting female passenger

A Didi driver who hugged, kissed and fondled a female passenger has been sentenced to a four-year detention for molestation, according to Minhang District People’s Court.

The victim, surnamed Xiao, left her office at 2am one day in September last year. It was too late to take public transportation, so she used Didi.

A driver surnamed Hui came to pick her up about 10 minutes later. Xiao sat beside him and they started to chat.

At 2:30am they arrived at her residential complex. When Xiao was about to get out of the car, Hui suddenly flung his arms around her neck, and then started to kiss her and fondle her body.

Luckily, Xiao took the chance to open the window and called for help, which alerted the security guards outside her residential complex. They approached to see what was going on.

Afraid of being seen, Hui let her go and drove away. Xiao immediately called police. After that, he sent messages and called her asking to be forgiven.

Xiao rejected his apology. Later that day, he handed himself in to police.
