Flights were canceled, cruise liners rescheduled, sea bridge closed and ferry services suspended as the Typhoon Kong-rey is approaching.

The 25th typhoon this year is moving northward with gusts up to 35 meters per second. It was about 500 kilometers away from Shanghai at 8am on Friday and is expected to reach the same latitude of Shanghai around 8pm, bringing gale and rainstorm to the city, Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

Forty-eight flights have been canceled at the Pudong International Airport as of Friday noon due to the typhoon and over a dozen of flights have been delayed, the Shanghai Airport Authority said.

The airport authority has stabilized aircraft being berthed on aprons at both Pudong and Hongqiao airports and reinforced advertisement boards, light boxes, air-conditioners and cranes.

Donghai Bridge has been closed to vehicles in both ways as of 11am. All the ferry services to the city's Chongming, Changxing and Hengsha islands have also been suspended. The Huangpu River cruise services have been closed.

Two cruise liners to berth at the Wusongkou International Cruise Liner Terminal in Baoshan District have been rescheduled. The MSC Splendida, which has been berthed at the terminal, will prolong its berthing period till Saturday afternoon. The Norwegian Joy to take some 9,200 passengers will leave the terminal on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, over 1,600 people at the Yangshan Deep-Water Port at the Hangzhou Bay have been evacuated to ensure safety.
