Twenty suspects have been nailed for illegally selling diesel and gas, with 35 vehicles they used for purpose seized so far this month in a targeted campaign, Shanghai police said on Tuesday.

In most cases, the suspects operated illegal business in busy trucking thoroughfares, meaning their clients were mostly truck drivers.

On October 5, at a recycling station on Gangcheng Road in the Pudong New Area, police caught four suspects who used 13 vehicles to pump diesel. Police said they started their investigation after finding that some container trucks entered the station at night to refill their tanks.

Suspects were also caught in Baoshan and Yangpu districts, police said.

They added that the campaign, in cooperation with the city’s quality supervisors, is ongoing.
