Thirty-seven top scientists from around the world, including 26 Nobel laureates, will converge at a high-profile Shanghai forum from October 29 to 31 to discuss the development of scientific and technological innovation in the city.

The World Laureates Forum is due to be held in the vicinity of the 556-square-meter Dishui Lake in eastern Shanghai's Lingang area.

It will bring together Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry, physiology and economics, as well as eight recipients of other major awards, including the Wolf Prize and the Turing Award.

Also attending will be 17 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as 18 outstanding young scientists from home and abroad.

The scientists, from the United States, Great Britain, Norway, Germany, Israel and other countries and regions, are expected to share their insights into the latest development in science and how they can be married with industries to produce solutions to some of the pressing issues facing mankind today, including cancer, the threat of artificial intelligence and so on.

The forum will be divided into four themed panels, a special sub-panel and a roundtable under the overarching theme of "Science and Technology, For the Common Destiny of Mankind."

The four themed panels will see participants brainstorming topics ranging from photonic science to life science, and drug research to artificial intelligence. The setting of a special sub-panel is meant to encourage in-depth exchange between up-and-coming scientists and their accomplished predecessors.

The roundtable will feature discussions on cutting-edge technology and development powered by innovation.

The intention of staging this science extravaganza is to harness the vision and influences of top-notch scientists in assisting Shanghai's quest to build itself into a high-tech center of global significance.
