A man who attempted suicide at home was saved after an online drugstore received his message and then informed authorities, Shanghai police said on Wednesday.

Last Thursday afternoon, the man, surnamed Zhang, asked a customer service staffer of an online drugstore what would happen if someone took 38 tablets of a certain cold medication and said he wanted to take his own life, shortly before going out of touch.

After finding that the user registered an address in the city’s Yangpu District, the staffer called police.

The police immediately went to the residential complex where Zhang lives and discovered the man having a fit and vomiting.

He was rushed to the hospital and saved.

Zhang later told police that he took the tablets as he was in a bad mood after a relationship ended.
