Safety crackdown after fatal accident
A series of safety inspections will be carried out in the wake of an incident at a construction site in Changning District that claimed 10 lives on May 16.
Chen Yin, deputy mayor of Shanghai, said the inspections will be looking at both construction companies and the authorities supervising them.
The inspections will cover old factory plants, hotels, industrial parks, office buildings and public facilities being renovated.
More efforts must be made in inspections on fire hazards and dangerous chemicals, said Chen.
He said fire can cost grave casualties in places like factories, warehouses and high-rise buildings.
