A total of 23 suspects were caught in two criminal cases on Friday and Sunday, Shanghai police said on Sunday.

In Songjiang District, 15 suspects were nabbed on Sunday morning for allegedly forging home lease contracts to claim huge amounts in compensation money for demolition of houses.

Police launched their investigation based on clues and tips reported to the discipline watchdog of the suburban district.

Police in the Pudong New Area, meanwhile, captured eight loan shark suspects from the new area and neighboring Anhui Province on Friday evening.

Wu Yuliang, head of a gang crime fighting taskforce from the central government who has been staying in Shanghai to supervise the work of local police in this regard, followed the two operations at the district and new area police command centers live.

Wu congratulated the police officers involved in the two raids and encouraged them to keep up the momentum in fighting crime and uncovering people in positions of power who assist criminals.
