A total of 65 train stations in 40 cities in the Yangtze River Delta will have ID check turnstiles with facial recognition by the end of year, China Railway Shanghai Group said on Thursday.

Currently, only 48 stations in 26 cities have the system.

The region's railway network has been a hit with tourists this summer. More than 2.2 million people traveled by train every day.

China Railway said that since all passengers must pass an ID check before entering a station, facilities such as facial recognition were more efficient than manual inspections and saved passengers a lot of time.
