The Pudong branch of the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center started trial operations on Friday, and outpatient services will open in September.
Located in Zhangjiang, the hospital next to Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center has 800 beds and will highlight accurate diagnosis and treatment of tumors, particle radiotherapy, pathological diagnosis and development of treatments.
It will create a research platform for precision treatment and play a major role in development of new anti-cancer medicine and medical equipment, said Guo Xiaomao, director of the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center.
The branch has an experimental animal center covering 2,000 square meters for the clinical transformation of new anti-cancer drugs and the screening of medicine targeting individual patients.
Free consultations were provided at the new hospital on Friday morning to mark its opening.
