Philanthropic organizations honored

Dozens of organizations and projects were honored on Saturday night at a gala hosted by the city civil affairs authority.
The Shanghai Youth Development Foundation and Shanghai Fengxian Jinhai Residential Community Volunteer Service Center were among the 10 philanthropic organizations honored.
A child care project at Children's Hospital of Fudan University and a study support project by the Shanghai Cihui Foundation were among the best public welfare projects.
The awards, in their third year, are based on expert evaluation and public votes.
Shanghai has 17,000 registered social organizations, of which 500 are foundations. The organizations received 5 billion yuan (US$716 million) in donations last year.
The poverty alleviation funds reached 1 billion yuan.
