The 2019 International Symposium on Internet-plus Intelligent Detection (Shanghai) was held in Minhang District on Sunday.

Nearly 300 people attended the event .

The new generation of information technology has led to a new science and technology revolution and industrial transformation, and Internet plus and intelligence should be key in inspection and testing, said Tian Shihong, deputy director of the State Administration for Market Regulation.

"Intelligence plays an important role in scientific research and innovation of inspection as well as improving supervision efficiency," said Xu Xinjian, director of the department of accreditation and testing with the administration.

There are deficiencies in China in terms of testing methods and standards, evaluation models and testing equipment, he said.

Some of the original evaluation criteria no longer meet the needs of new technology demand updates of existing standards and methods, said Xu.

The administration will cultivate national intelligent testing institutions, said Xu.

China's inspection and testing service industry had an turnover of 281 billion yuan last year with an average annual growth of 15 percent. There were 40,000 inspection and testing institutions in China at the end of last year, a rise of 59 percent from 2013.

Artificial intelligence can play an important role in inspection and will lead to big changes in the field, said Zhuang Songlin with the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

More AI-based instruments should be developed, he said.

The symposium was part of the 83rd IEC General Meeting hosted in Shanghai, which will kick off on Monday.
