Haimen steps up integration into the Yangtze River Delta region with agreements signed in Shanghai.

Twenty projects covering areas such as power delivery, intelligent warehousing and supply chain distribution have been signed between Haimen, in east China's Jiangsu Province, and Shanghai, adding fuel to the development of the city which has stepped up integration into the Yangtze River Delta region.

The projects involve a total investment of more than 30 billion yuan (US$4.26 billion). Among them, a wind power project is worth 2 billion yuan, while another intelligent warehouse and supply chain distribution center project has a value of US$435 million. They were signed in Shanghai on Wednesday.

Haimen aims to turn itself into "five bases" for Shanghai, including a base of tourism bound from Shanghai, a premium supply base of agricultural products to Shanghai, and a supporting base of Shanghai's top-level manufacturing industry, said Chen Yong, Party secretary of Haimen.

Haimen is developing a number of cultural and tourism complexes centering on its river and town resources and countryside attractions; as well as tourism destinations like Yudong Ancient Town, Haiyong Tourism Resort and Dieshiqiao Home Textile Town. And it is developing projects combining tourism and industry, tourism and culture, and tourism and health, said Guo Xiaomin, mayor of Haimen.

The number of tourists and investors to Haimen from Shanghai has already surpassed 2.5 million annually, according to the Haimen government.

Haimen has also geared up for the integrated development of advanced equipment manufacturing, biomedicine, new materials and modern service industries with Shanghai, and participated in the construction of big data centers and industrial Internet platform clusters.

The scale of Haimen's three pillar industries, namely modern architecture, modern home textiles and advanced equipment manufacturing, are expected to surpass 200 billion yuan, 120 billion yuan and 130 billion yuan this year respectively, according to the Haimen government.

The city will also deepen cooperation with Shanghai in environmental protection, education, medical treatment and culture, the city government said.

The construction of a number of mega transportation projects, such as the Nantong new airport and the North Yanjiang high-speed railway connecting Shanghai and Hefei, will provide new opportunities for the landing of high-quality Shanghai projects in Haimen and attract top-level talents to the city, the Haimen government said.
