Police set up a road block at the intersection of Tianmu Road W. and Meiyuan Road near Shanghai Railway Station on Wednesday night. A driver is stopped for a check.

Twenty-seven illegal taxi drivers were nabbed in a citywide campaign on Wednesday night, local traffic law enforcers said on Thursday.

The law enforcers, together with police, set up road blocks at nine spots, including Pudong International Airport, Hongqiao traffic hub and Shanghai Railway Station. They were on the lookout for unregistered taxis and also drivers who cheat passengers with rigged meters.

No meter-cheating cases were discovered on Wednesday night, Shanghai Daily was informed.

For the upcoming second China International Import Expo, law enforcers said they will focus their efforts on areas around the venue of the expo, the National Exhibition and Convention Center. They will also concentrate on hotels designated to host journalists covering the expo, airports and railway stations, major tourist spots and shopping hubs.

Since August, law enforcers have been waging campaigns against illegal taxis, overloaded trucks and taxi rule violators. Over the past month, they have also been making trips to key companies in the transportation sector to see that they live up to their responsibilities.
