Visitors look at paintings on display at the exhibition. 

An art exhibition dedicated to the meaning and value of life opened at the Shanghai Civil Affairs Museum in Huangpu District on Friday.

Included in the display are works such as watercolors and traditional Chinese paintings from established artists and students at Shanghai University, East China Normal University and Shanghai Normal University.

Amidst the artistic exploration of life, themes of death and mortality are also covered. Another aim of the show is to demonstrate funeral reforms in Shanghai over the past decade.

The exhibition is jointly hosted by the Shanghai Funeral and Interment Service Center and the museum. It will run through December 26.
