China's second team of medical professionals set off to Italy on Wednesday to help the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

China's second team of medical professionals set off to Italy on Wednesday from Shanghai to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Twelve medical experts from neighboring Zhejiang Province and an official with the National Health Commission took a charter flight with China Eastern Airlines to Milan, along with 17.3 tons of equipment.

A Boeing 777-300ER aircraft operating flight MU7041 took off from the Pudong airport at 11:26am and is expected to land at the Milan airport at 4:31pm local time.

The experts are from the First Hospital of Zhejiang Province as well as the province's hospital of traditional Chinese medicine, Tongde Hospital and Zhejiang's center for disease control and prevention.

They will mainly share their knowledge with local hospitals and experts in Milan on coronavirus prevention, offer guidance and counseling as well as support the Chinese embassy, companies, students and overseas Chinese.

Medical equipment onboard the plane includes ventilators and monitors as well as portable ultrasound devices, laboratory testing reagents, protective materials and commonly used drugs.

China sent its first group of nine medical experts to Italy on March 12.
