A small orchestra entertains at the opening of the Shanghai International Children’s Art Festival.

Shanghai International Children’s Art Festival opened on Thursday.

It is being held by the Shanghai Youth International Exchange Center and three other partners in consultation with the Shanghai Youth League and other organizations.

It was expanded from the International Children’s Music Week held last year and will cover painting, dance, drama, poetry, Chinese calligraphy as well as music.

During the festival, which will last till the end of August, performances, exhibitions, concerts, workshops and lectures will be held for children. There will also be competitions.

Children 3 to 19 years old from foreign countries can take part in the poetry, calligraphy and painting competition which started to accept submissions from the middle of June.

Children 4 to 12 years old can also take part in a musical instrument and singing competition. They can submit their performances over the Internet and live via videolink.

Interested parties can also submit requests or entries for the competitions to dasai@xiaoyinka.com, with their name, age and the kind of instrument played in the video they submitted for the music competition.
