Coronary disease fear for younger people

There are 330 million people with cardiovascular disease in China. For every five deaths, two are the result of the disease, experts told an event launched for World Heart Day on Tuesday.

Experts said the disease not only affects the elderly, as more young and middle-aged people are suffering. Health checks offered by enterprises usually don’t include screening for coronary disease, which doesn’t present symptoms in time and may cause cardiac arrest in the case of fatigue, sports and excitement.

“Screening and treatment for coronary disease prevention and control should drop the age criteria to check the risk for more young and middle-aged people through MRI and CT scans of the cardiovascular system,” said Dr Huang Lianjun, vice president of Shanghai Delta Hospital. “Through such checks, doctors can give more targeted and individualized suggestions in sports and healthcare.”
