Interactive show explores animals and mythical creatures

Covering an area of 900 square meters, an immersive exhibition titled “Sober Animals” will hit Shanghai at the L+ Mall of Lujiazui from December 23. 

With a new visual angle, the show will present a magic world of animals using advanced technology and visual language.

More than 30 interactive scenes will be exhibited, including “a perspective of pets,” “a discussion of animal fur” and “a new look of mythical creatures.” 

In the show, audiencs will have chances to know a large number of unexpected fun facts about animals and think deeply about the importance of protecting ecology.

Chilean artists offer alternative view on life

A joint exhibition from five Chilean artists, Marcos Zegers, Maria Jose Pedraza, Isadora Concha, Margarita Gomez and Yoya Zamora Manzur, is currently running at TM Studio Art Space till January 17 next year. 

The exhibit, entitled “Before the crowd,” features a series of photography works portraying architectural landscapes and passengers from our daily lives. 

It includes several thought provoking series, such as the “desert infrastructures,” “water cathedrals” and “reflection as an image shifter.” 

The works stimulate art lovers to think in an alternative view, allowing them to observe life from a different angle.

Eurovision winners to rock Shanghai

Secret Garden, an Irish-Norwegian band specializing in new instrumental music, will showcase their Scandinavian blarney blend in Shanghai early next month. The group has sold over 3 million albums since winning the 1995 eurovision Song Contest, representing Norway with the composition “Nocturne.” Their eurovision success spearheaded the success of their first album “Songs from a Secret Garden.” It sold a million copies around the world, going platinum in Norway and South Korea, gold in Ireland, China’s Hong Kong and New Zealand and spent two years in the Billboard newage charts between 1996 and 1997.

Holographic concert of Michael Jackson to be screened

A Holographic Michael Jackson concert is being held in December. 

Audience can watch from any angle an image of the super star projected by holographic laser. They can also hear the voice and see the expression and action of Jackson through the image. 

Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and 26 American music awards during his whole life and was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by Grammy. His contribution to music keeps on influencing the later generation a lot.

Concert of classical favorites to welcome in the New Year

The Shanghai Grand Theater is continuing its collaboration with Shanghai Opera House to present a New Year’s concert at the end of December. 

The concert’s guest list includes renowned estonian-American conductor, Neeme Jarvi. 

Masterpieces from Grieg, Mozart, Delibes, Offenbach, Puccini and Bizet all feature in the show, while estonian soprano elina Nechayeva performs and provides vocals. 

If you have no plans on how to welcome in 2019, this New Year’s classical concert might be a good choice.

Lego exhibition building on world’s cultural heritage

Lego’s first world heritage exhibition in mainland China is to be launched at Joy City next month, bringing with it 40 famous heritage models from all over the world.

It includes China’s Great Wall, Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa, France’s eiffel Tower, the Sydney Opera House from Australia and other iconic, well-known heritage buildings and structures from throughout the globe.

Besides the huge number of building models, viewers can also appreciate space maps produced by JAXA, an aerospace exploration agency of Japan, and experience an amazing documentary of world heritage at the same time.

Cuban music mix on Bizet classic ‘Carmen’

Adapted from Georges Bizet’s classic musical “Carmen,” a new version “Carmen La Cubana” is to be staged at Shanghai Culture Square from December 12 to December 23.

Carmen La Cubana retains Bizet’s classical music elements but is flavored with authentic Cuban styles. entwined together by a story from the Cuban revolution, the show creates a fresh musical outlook featuring intense Latin American characteristics. British director Christopher renshaw and Tony Award winning American musician Alex Lacamoire manage conjuring a delightful mix of opera with salsa, rumba and chacha-cha.

Broadway smash ‘Chicago’ hits Majestic Theater stage

One of Broadway’s most famous musicals will hit the Majestic Theater stage in December. 

“Chicago” has been honored with six Tony Awards and two Olivier Awards, among many others and bowled over audiences all around the world since its debut in 1975.

The story is based on two murder cases by American reporter Mauline Watkins in 1924. 

It was adapted into musical by director Bob Fosse in the 1970s.
