1 killed, 9 injured after building collapses at construction site

One man was killed and nine injured after the roof of a building under construction collapsed in Fengxian District at around 4:40pm on Sunday.

According to the district’s safety administration, the site under construction was a sales office for real estate developer Country Garden. The floor on the sixth level collapsed while workers were concreting, leaving many buried by steel tubes and concrete frames.

Local police and firefighters rushed to the scene to search for survivors. One man was found dead at the scene while the other nine injured were sent to hospital to receive treatment.

The injuries of the nine were not life-threatening, the administration said.

The cause of the collapse is still being investigated.
