Discounted train tickets offered during Spring Festival travel rush
China's railway authority is offering discounts of up to 65 percent during the Spring Festival travel rush.
All are for trains added for the rush, most of which are headed into Shanghai before the holiday or out of town after it.
The discounts will help those who cannot go back to their hometowns for the festival, but whose families may wish to come to Shanghai, said China Railway Group.
Zhang Chi bought two tickets from Guiyang in Guizhou Province to Shanghai on February 2 for his sister and nephew.
“The flight home is too expensive, and train tickets too hard to get,” said Zhang. “So I invited my sister to come here this year. My nephew has always wanted to go to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower.”
Thanks to the discount, Zhang paid 505 yuan (US$74) for two sleeper berths. The cheapest flight from Shanghai to Guiyang the same day is 1400 yuan.
