Shanghai's Metro system is, to put it simply, a modern wonder. It's the longest in the world, stretching hundreds of kilometers and serving millions of passengers each day.

But even the world's most modern subway lines need to keep with the times, and Shanghai is no exception. A raft of new technologies and innovations are being used, not only on the front lines but also behind the scenes.

In this chapter, Shanghai Daily’s Andy Boreham visits the Longyang Road base of Shanghai Metro, where a team works tirelessly behind the scenes, monitoring operation of the city’s 705-kilometer network.

In the first chapter, Andy tested some of the new AI ticketing technologies getting people to their destinations faster. You can watch it here.
