Ticket swipe machines at Shanghai South Railway Station have been upgraded for use of e-tickets.

Over 100 railway stations serving trains in the Yangtze River Delta region will offer and accept e-tickets from June 20, China Railway Shanghai Group said on Thursday.

These stations include three in Shanghai: the Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai South Railway Station and Songjiang Railway Station.

Passengers can purchase e-tickets via the Internet, railway station windows, ticket-vending machines and sales agencies, the group said.

The new tickets will significantly improve the efficiency of passenger flows, the group said. They will also help avoid fake tickets and lost tickets, and enable non-contact boarding and exiting of trains, the group said.

Foreigners can use their Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card to pass through ticket checking machines under the system.
