Internet-based health care is in full swing in Jing’an District, with the launch of a website and apps for online registration, payment, medical record checks, health data and health management. It is also home to the nation’s first Internet-based community hospital, while patient follow-up visits using AI technology and big data-based health evaluations are widely promoted in health facilities in the district

“Promoting Internet use in the health service doesn’t simply mean that we offer out-patient services online,” said Peng Derong, president of the Pengpu Xincun Neighborhood Health Center. It was also a means to introduce health services to residents and their families. Peng said the Internet-based service can enhance communication between physicians and patients.

So far, four community hospitals in Jing’an are offering online services and such services will cover all community hospitals this year.

A Health Jing’an app developed by the district’s health commission offers almost all the health care services that residents may need.

As the novel coronavirus pandemic wanes in China, the app also offers coronavirus self-screening tests, online consultations, fever clinic reservations and nucleic acid tests.

“Residents said they spend less time in queuing and bill payment through using the app,” said Kong Bin, who is in charge of the app. “An issue which requires an hour and even the entire morning in a hospital is now fulfilled within 10 minuets through the Health Jing’an app.”

“More and more people are using the app to book hospital services,” said Ye Qiang, director of the Jing’an District Health Commission. “To help the elderly, an app has been designed for them with bigger characters and a much simpler page for GP consultations, health database, reservations and prescription checks functions.”

Online and offline health care are both important sectors in the current health reform. Jing’an is building a regional medical center to improve grassroots capabilities.

Zhebei Central Hospital, a hospital close to Shanghai Railway Station, has played an important role in coronavirus prevention and control. By Tuesday, its fever clinic had received 2,940 patients and admitted 83 people, including 10 expats, for quarantine and observation.
