There were more than 100 million train trips in the Yangtze River Delta region during the summer vacation, 71.3 percent of the figure in the same period last year, China Railway Shanghai Group announced on Tuesday.

The region recorded 100.45 million trips over 62 days as of Monday, with a daily average of 1.62 million, 22.4 percent of the national total during the holiday, the group said.

In July, the region reported 47.24 million rail trips, an increase of 23.6 percent from June. The figure in August climbed 12.6 percent from July.

On August 29, 1.97 million rail trips were made in the region, a daily record after the Spring Festival, the group said.

Extra trains were arranged on routes such as Shanghai-Nanjing, Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong, and Nanjing-Hangzhou to satisfy the rise in demand, it said.

The Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong railway, which opened on July 2, recorded 2.54 million summer trips, exceeding expectations, the group said.

The resumption of cross-province group tourism in mid-July further increased railway traffic, and 20 train trips exclusively for group tourists were organized in the region over the summer, taking more than 7,000 tourists on trips.

Two exclusive trains from Zhejiang Province to Gansu and Qinghai provinces with each trip lasting 10 days are due to operate early this month, the group said.

During the summer vacation, more than 11,000 e-tickets were sold in the region, the group said.
