After 78 days helping overworked and understaffed Wuhan medical professionals fight novel coronavirus, the last team of Shanghai doctors and nurses left the city having completed their mission.

On April 10, just two days after the embattled city finally opened following nearly 80 days of lockdown, the last bus load of Shanghai medics headed to the airport led by police. The battle has been won, with local COVID-19 infections falling from a high of around 15,000 in one day to zero.

It's been a tough ride for the 1649 doctors and nurses from Shanghai's hospitals, and the journey isn't quite over yet. They will now need to undergo two weeks of medical observation in quarantine before being reunited with their loved ones.

Watch the video above as the team pack up and leave Wuhan after a hard-fought victory.
